EC worried with security situation in Terai; ministers urged to abide by code of conduct
The Election Commission has expressed worries that the security situation in some districts of Terai is still not satisfactory enough.
During interaction with one dozen ministers of the government, Tuesday morning, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Bhojraj Pokharel said that although the incidents of violence have reduced, the situation is still not normal.
The EC officials urged the ministers to further improve security situation.
The EC also asked the government ministers to abide by the code of conduct for constituent assembly polls while using the government facilities during the polls campaign.
During the discussion, the commission cautioned the ministers about the questions raised by other parties regarding misuse of government facilities.
The CEC Pokharel urged the ministers to instruct their party cadres to restrain from entering into clashes during the poll process. Pokharel advised the ministers to form an all party committee for the security of the booths.
Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and Forest Minister Matrika Yadav opposed the decision of the commission to deploy government secretaries as poll observers in 44 districts.
Other ministers seemed unaware of the election laws as they urged the commission to be liberal in terms of using the government facilities during the polls campaign. nepalnews.com sd/ia Mar 11 08
