Governor's hearing put off again
After numerous postponements at the Special Court, which ended up giving a fractured verdict, the hearing of the case of governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai has now been postponed by Supreme Court.
The single bench of judge Ram Prasad Shrestha ordered the administration to notify the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) about the case hearing at the apex court. The next hearing of the case is likely to take place next week.
The case had reached the apex court after three judges at Special Court gave three different opinions on the case two weeks ago.
On February 17, the chief judge of the Special Court Bhoop Dhoj Adhikary concluded that the case did not have enough strength and suggested the accused be given a clean chit. A judge of the court, Komal Nath Sharma pointed at the need for further evidence to proceed with the case while the third judge, Cholendra SJB Rana saw enough evidence to sentence him as guilty.
Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) – who currently remains suspended – Bhattarai and director Surendra Pradhan were slapped with a case of financial irregularities worth Rs 20 million by the CIAA.
The CIAA had pressed charges against them eight months ago at the Special Court. nepalnews.com sd Mar 11 08
