EC asks smaller parties to ensure inclusiveness

For failing to abide by the election law for inclusive list of candidates for the upcoming election, the Election Commission has invited the Madhesi groups and parties formed by former panchas to talk about their list.

These parties failed to include 33 percent of women candidates in their list under both the proportional representation and first-past-the-post system as required by the law.

The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) has fielded 3 women out of 105 candidates under the FPTP, Terai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) has fielded 4 women out of 96 candidates and the Nepal Sadbhavana Party (NSP) 5 out of 93 candidates.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) has 9 women candidates out of 207 and the Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) has 14 out 201 candidates under FPTP.

Other major parties have already submitted their amended list of candidates at the commission. nepalnews.com ia Mar 11 08
