Concluding that the fate of monarchy should be decided through referendum rather than the first sitting of the Constituent Assembly as has been agreed between the seven parties and the Maoists, the pro-monarchist Rastriya Prajatantra Party – Nepal (RPP-N) on Monday unveiled its election manifesto by organizing a press conference in the capital.
In the election manifesto, RPP-N, which has been advocating constitutional monarchy right from the beginning, has proposed ‘constitutional monarchial parliamentary democracy’ rule in the country.
Similarly, the party has proposed that the King should remain as the head of state while state including executive powers should be with the prime minister. And, like in the post 1990 parliament, the party has said that the parliament should consist of two houses – the upper house or the national assembly and the lower house or the House of Representatives.
Although the party had earlier talked about federal structure and local government, it hasn’t come clear on these two issues in its manifesto.
Speaking at the program, RPP-Nepal chairman Kamal Thapa who was home minister during the erstwhile royal regime blamed the seven parties of increased foreign interference in the country and that the country was heading towards disintegration. He further added that this is why his party has adopted the middle path of moving ahead by including everyone. nepalnews.com ag Mar 11 08
