Maoists asked for 60 percent seats, claims MK Nepal
Explaining why efforts to forge leftist alliance – particularly between the Maoists and the Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) – failed, UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has claimed that the Maoists came forth with what he called as ‘extravagant proposal.’
Addressing a programme organised by pro-UML students in Ratna Rajya college, Thursday, Nepal claimed that the Maoists asked for 60 percent seats in such an alliance.
“There were proposals for us to vacate constituencies where we are in strong position,” he said.
He, however, added that there were still chances for such alliance based on realities.
In recent days, leaders of UML and Maoists have engaged in verbal duel over the issue of alliance. nepalnews.com sd Mar 14 08
