MJF proposes President with executive power
Madhesi Janadhikar Forum led by Upendra Yadav has proposed for President
as the executive head of state in its polls manifesto.
The party, which had launched Madhes agitation for autonomous Terai
state, has proposed that the President be elected directly through
popular vote. However, the party said the President must be accountable
to the parliament.
The party has said it favours bicameral parliament at the center and a
legislative assembly in the states. The state parliament will elect the
chief minister.
The MJF manifesto also says that geography, economic viability and
linguistic demography must be the basis for division of federal units. The
party has not, however, mentioned the number of federal units, saying that
the number should be determined in consultation with experts.
Meanwhile, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) has said its election
manifesto has been finalised and will be publicised in a day or two. nepalnews.com ia Mar 15 08
