19,000 apply for South Korea employment in two days
About 19,000 youths aspiring to go to South Korea for work have filled up exam forms in just two days.
12,000 youths had filed the forms on the opening day yesterday while 7000 more filed applications at the makeshift office set up by the labour
ministry at Dasharath Stadium amidst heavy police presence.
Unlike on Saturday, there were no long queues of people as the authorities arranged 16 counters to pay the exam fee.
Laxmi Sharan Ghimire, director at the Department of Labour and Employment Promotion for Employment Permission System (EPS), told Nepalnews that as many as 5000 people had already submitted exam forms till 3 pm today and the number would reach about 7000 by today evening.
He said that estimated 36,000 people would be attending the exam for Korean language proficiency to be held after two weeks. The Tribhuvan University is collecting the exam forms.
Youths who traveled to Kathmandu to fill up the form complained that it would be better for them if the government had made arrangements to submit forms in their own districts.
Dhruba Karki of Pokhara said that the government should have arranged the mechanism so that they could fill up the forms in Pokhara.
Another job aspirant Amrit Neupane said he was very much concerned if the exam and other process would be transparent and corruption free.
"We have been assured that we should not pay more than Rs.105,000 to go to Korea," he said. "But, we are not sure we can get the opportunity without paying hefty sum of bribe."
However, Ghimire assured that there would be no cheating in results as the Koreans would be checking the answer papers.
He also assured that the selection process of people aspiring to go Korea would be corruption free. Only the people securing pass mark in this exam will be eligible candidate to for Korea. nepalnews.com ps Mar 16 08
