India won't tolerate activities that can affect polls: Indian envoy
Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee has said that the
security forces of both India and Nepal have been put under alert to check
possible criminal activities that can take place along the border during
the Constituent Assembly election on April 10.
Talking to reporters on Wednesday after laying the foundation stone of the
Emergency and Maternity Ward of Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital in Rajbiraj,
Saptari district, which being constructed with Indian assistance of Rs 30
million, ambassador Mukherjee said that Indian authorities were in
constant touch with their Nepalis counterparts to step up vigilance in
border areas. He also made it clear that India would not tolerate
activities that could adversely affect the polls.
Saying that India is very much aware that criminal activities in Nepal
would increase as the election draws near, he said that India had adopted
strong security measures in view of it.
Reports say that the Nepali and the Indian security forces have tightened
security on their sides of the border in view of the election,
intensifying security checks and patrolling along the border day and
night.
Nepali police officials deployed along the border say that they are
conducting thorough security checks on all those entering Nepal from India
or going to India to prevent any undesired activity. They say the security
has been heightened in view of the possibility of criminal gangs smuggling
