Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee has said that the security forces of both India and Nepal have been put under alert to check possible criminal activities that can take place along the border during the Constituent Assembly election on April 10.

He also made it clear that India would not tolerate activities that could adversely affect the polls.

Saying that India is very much aware that criminal activities in Nepal would increase as the election draws near, he said that India had adopted strong security measures in view of it.

Reports say that the Nepali and the Indian security forces have tightened security on their sides of the border in view of the election, intensifying security checks and patrolling along the border day and night.

Nepali police officials deployed along the border say that they are conducting thorough security checks on all those entering Nepal from India or going to India to prevent any undesired activity. They say the security has been heightened in view of the possibility of criminal gangs smuggling explosives and arms in Nepal to create terror during election time.nepalnews.com ag Mar 18 08
