Litterateur Ishwor Ballabh passes away
Renowned litterateur Ishwor Ballabh passed away in Kathmandu Sunday morning after suffering a major heart stroke.
A heart patient since long, Ballabh died while being rushed to the Norvic Hospital in Thapathali after he complained of severe pain in his chest in the morning. He was 73.
One of the leading figures of 'Tesro Aayam' (third dimension) and 'Lila Lekhan' (magical realism) movement in Nepali literature along with fellow writers Indra Bahadur Rai and Bairagi Kaila, he had more than a dozen books under his name ranging from poetry, drama, novels and essays.
He had been a regular columnist with Kantipur Daily writing mainly on Nepali literature before his dwindling health compelled him to discontinue it.
A versatile writer who would be remembered more as a poet and a lyricist par-excellence, one of Ballabh's widely read book of poetry is Ago ka phul haru hoon, Ago ka phul haru hoinan, for which he received the prestigious Madan Puraskar in the year 2049. He was also life-time member of the National Academy.
Ballabh's last rites were performed at the Pashupati Aryaghat.
