NHRC serious about police against protesting Tibetans
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed serious concern towards the police action during the recent protests of Tibetan exiles outside the premises of United Nations office in Lalitpur.
Issuing a press statement Wednesday, NHRC asked the government to respect the right of individuals to peaceful assembly and peaceful protest. The rights watchdog also expressed worry over the arrest of Nepali human rights defenders who had staged demonstration to protest the police action against the protesting Tibetans.
In the meantime, NHRC said, the Tibetans should respect the law of the host country.
Like NHRC, several national and international human rights groups have already appealed to the government to stop using excessive force while trying to control the protesters.
