Armed groups ready for negotiations, form talks team

Responding to the government call for talks, four armed groups operating in the Terai have on Wednesday expressed their willingness to hold talks with the government.

Issuing a joint press statement, the armed groups said they have formed a four-member talks team. However, they haven't disclosed the names of those in the talks team.

A statement signed by Rajan, central coordinator of the Madhesh Mukti tigers (MMT), Nagaraj, chairman of the Terai Cobra, Rajan Mukti, chairman of Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) and Pawan, coordinator of Samyukta Jantantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (SJTMM), says they have agreed to sit for dialogue in context of the government agreeing to provide universally accepted rights to the Madhesis and Terai residents through talks and consultation.

The armed groups have demanded that the government release their arrested comrades and withdraw cases filed against them to create a conducive and credible atmosphere for holding talks. They have also asked that the time and place for dialogue be fixed through mediators on Thursday, saying that the government would be responsible for the safety of their talks team members. nepalnews.com ag Mar 27 08
