Explosion in Biratnagar mosque, two killed

Two persons were killed when unknown group threw a bomb inside a mosque in Sarauchiya, Biratnagar on Saturday evening.

The administration has clamped indefinite curfew in and around the area since 9 pm on Saturday following the explosion.

Firoz Khan and Parwez Iraqi Ansari were killed in the explosion while two others have been hospitalized.

Witnesses claim that two persons on motorcycle had thrown the bomb inside the mosque where over five dozen people were praying.

A group called National Defense Army has claimed the responsibility for the explosion. It has not yet been independently verified.

The blasts occurred on the very day Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala instructed security chiefs of the region to bolster security situation in the run up to the polls.

PM Koirala is in Biratnagar since Friday. nepalnews.com sd Mar 30 08
