EC directs four smaller parties to 'revise' their PR lists
The Election Commission (EC) today gave directions to four smaller parties regarding their list of nominees for proportional representation (PR) seats.
The EC wrote letters to CPN (Marxist Leninist) and CPN (United), pointing out that the name lists sent by them on Friday were not in accordance with the laws related to PR system, and asked them to come up with revised lists within three days.
CPN (ML) and CPN (United) have bagged eight and two PR seats respectively. Both the communist parties failed to win a singe seat in the first-past-the-post system whereas the names of their chiefs appeared in the final PR lists.
The EC also asked Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi), whose two factions submitted separate name lists, to come up with an official PR list.
Likewise, the EC also wrote a letter to Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-Nepal) to furnish clarification regarding the complaint registered by 18 central committee members, opposing the PR list submitted by the party. RPP-Nepal led by Kamal Thapa has got four seats under PR system.
Altogether 25 parties had submitted their PR lists at the EC on Friday. nepalnews.com mk May 04 08
