Talks slated to end transport strike

The government has invited the agitating transport entrepreneurs for talks, Friday, to end the indefinite strike imposed in four eastern zones.

Officials of Ministry of Labour and Transport Management and representatives of National Transport Entrepreneurs Federation led by its president Dinesh Bhandari are scheduled to hold talks at around noon in Kathmandu.

The talk was scheduled following directive by Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to the Ministries of Home, Finance and Transport Management to resolve the crisis.

Raising ten-point demands including ensuring security of transport entrepreneurs; proper provisions for insurance and compensation; and ensuring representation of transport workers in the Constituent Assembly they have imposed indefinite strike for the past four days in Mechi, Koshi, Sagarmatha and Janakpur zones.

The strike has affected the movement of vehicles in the region. Agitators have also resorted to vandalising vehicles plying in defiance of their diktat. nepalnews.com sd May 16 08
