Nepal Police Club will play AFC President's Cup in Malaysia

AFC President's Cup 2008 Group A matches will take place in the Malaysian city of Petaling Jaya from June 22 to 26, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced.

Group A was originally scheduled to be played in April at the Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu but an alternative venue had to be found after Nepal withdrew as hosts due to the political situation in the Himalayan nation.

Nepal Police Club, who were runners-up at last year's AFC President's Cup when they were known as Mahendra Police Club, kicks off the action at the MPPJ Stadium on June 22 when they take on Bangladesh outfit Abahani Limited before inaugural champions Regar Tadaz play Pakistan's WAPDA later at the same venue.

Two days later, WAPDA face Nepal Police Club in the early fixture after which Tajikistan champions Regar continue their quest for a second President's Cup title when they square-off with Abahani.

Group A concludes on June 26 with Abhani taking on WAPDA and Nepal Police Club coming up against Regar, with the side that finishes top of the table advancing to the semi-finals, where they will join defending champions and Group B winners Dordoi Dynamo and Ashgabat, who emerged victorious after a thrilling conclusion to Group C that saw three of the four teams tied on six points.

The three group winners will be joined by the best runner-up in the AFC President's Cup 2008 semi-finals which has been scheduled to take place from September 19 to 21 at a venue still to be confirmed. nepalnews.com bt May 17 08
