Seven parties to consider NFIN proposal while nominating 26 CA members
The seven-party alliance has 'agreed' to consider the demand put forth by Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NFIN) that majority of 26 Constituent Assembly members to be nominated by the government should be from Janajati groups which do not have a single representative in the CA.
During a meeting with a NFIN team on Saturday, leaders of the seven parties said they were ready to appoint members from Janajati groups.
Emerging from the meeting held at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction in Singh Durbar, NFIN president Pasang Sherpa said the SPA leaders assured that they would start process towards ensuring fair representation of Janajatis in the CA.
NFIN, which is an umbrella organisation of Janajatis in Nepal, has said that over a dozen Janajati groups do not have their representatives in the CA and has accused the parties of ignoring the calls for an inclusive Assembly.
NFIN president Sherpa, who was named for CA membership by the CPN-UML under the proportional system, had rejected his nomination, complaining that the party failed to nominate adequate number of the Janajatis. nepalnews.com mk May 17 08
