PM assures probe into Shrestha's killing; Koteshwor locals continue protest
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has assured the family members and kin of Ramhari Shrestha of Koteshwor who was murdered in Maoist captivity, that the government would conduct full investigation into the murder case.
Koirala gave the assurance to family members and the kin of Shrestha during a meeting with them in Baluwatar on Sunday. He said that those behind the murder would not be let off.
The victim's family and his kin had gone to Baluwatar, seeking the Prime Minister's help in initiating legal action against the murderers.
Shrestha, a local resident of Koteshwor who owned a restaurant in the area, was kidnapped from his house by a group of Maoist cadres on charges of theft, reportedly died due to torture inside a People's Libertarian Army camp in Chitwan last week. He was a Maoist supporter and had rented a flat of his house to the Maoists.
Meanwhile, the locals of Koteshwor continued their protest against the murder today as well.
The protesting locals chanted slogans against the Maoists and blocked vehicular traffic along the Naya Baneshwor-Koteshwor stretch of the road for several hours in the afternoon.
Police had to intervene after the protesters pelted stones at the Maoist central office in Buddhanagar. At least a dozen protesters and some policemen were hurt during a scuffle near the Maoist party office. nepalnews.com mk May 18 08
