Gautam charges Maoists of attempting to end other parties
A senior Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) leader who had been known for his soft corner towards Maoists has, however, stepped up blistering attack against the party.
Bamdev Gautam, a standing committee member of the UML, accused the Maoists of attempting to bring to an end the existence of other parties.
“They want to terminate the existence of other parties and turn them all into Maoists. They are in a haste to form the government,” Gautam said, while addressing a programme of federation of professionals in the capital on Monday.
“The UML wants to put moral pressure on the prime minister to resign and to amend the constitution to erase the provision of two-third (to make or break a government) and then allow the government led by the Maoists to be formed,” Gautam said.
Gautam was defeated in the recent election by a Maoist candidate in Bardiya district.
