Students shut down Biratnagar
The eastern town of Biratnagar remains partially closed on Wednesday with students and school teachers staging angry protests demanding immediate supply of textbooks.
Hundreds of protesting students and teachers staged demonstration main chowks of the town, chanting slogans against the government for failing to supply required number of textbooks. Main marketplaces and schools remain closed in Birtatngar due to the protest, reports said.
The protesters also attacked the District Education Office and some bookstores, but there no incidents of violence due to heavy presence of police.
Due to delays in printing and delivery, textbooks have not reached a number of districts even as it's been a month when the new academic session started. nepalnews.com mk May 21 08
