NRN seeks representation in CA

Nepalese Americas Council has said that a representation from the Non Resident Nepalis (NRN) in the Constituent Assembly will strengthen it and help provide "valuable input in the constitution drafting process".

"We understand that additional 26 members will be nominated by the government into the CA. NAC feels that at least one representative from the NRN community will be an excellent addition to the historic CA," NAC said in an "open letter" to Prime Minister of Nepal, adding that they wish "to support the development process in Nepal and aspire to help in its democratic transformation".

In the letter signed by president of NAC Dr Ambika Adhikari, the coordinating body of some 28 Nepali association in North America, also congratulated the Nepali people, government and political parties for the successful CA election, stressing that in future in such national election the Nepali citizen NRN should also have an opportunity to vote.

According to NAC, some two million NRN and Persons of Nepali Origin (PNO) live outside the SAARC nations, and most are Nepali citizens.

NAC is a council of Nepali organisations in North America established to create unity among people of Nepali origin for effective coordination, cooperation, and collaboration on common issues. nepalnews.com ag May 22 08
