PM says he'll speak on govt's current status in first CA meeting

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said he will clarify the status of the current government, as well as his own, at the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly on May 28.

Koirala said this in response to a proposal of the Maoist ministers during a cabinet meeting today that he must clarify the exact status of the government –- whether it's a caretaker government with very limited rights, and if he was preparing to hand over the reins of power to a new government right away.

The Prime Minister is learnt to have said that he "will make everything clear" at the first CA meeting, which is set to abolish monarchy and declare republic.

The Maoist ministers in their proposal also asked the cabinet not to take important decisions concerning economic and administrative matters.

Meanwhile, the government has promulgated an ordinance on the procedures of the CA meeting and the swearing-in of Assembly members.

Today's cabinet had approved the draft of the ordinance. nepalnews.com mk May 22 08
