Seven-point condition is for consensus, claims Deuba

Senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba said on Thursday that the NC put forward the seven-point condition before the Maoists to move forward the consensus politics.

In an interaction on 'New Nepal and SAARC relations; organised by South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA), he said the NC believed the Maoists would be convinced on those demands.

The former Prime Minister also stressed that there should be no room for violence in New Nepal.

Senior leader of CPN (UML) K.P. Sharma Oli said that Nepal's foreign policy should be based on United Nations' Charter, human rights, Pancha Sheel and the SAARC Charter.

He, however, warned that the international relation of Nepal could be fluid in the transitional period.

Head of foreign affairs department in CPN (Maoist) C.P Gajurel said that Nepal should not keep special relations with any country at the cost of relation with another country.

He complained that the diplomatic relations in South Asia had been difficult as the South Asian countries have a history of conflict among each other. "One country may take it negatively if Nepal promotes relations with another country," he said.

Former Minister Nilambar Acharya said Nepal must follow the democratic system to earn international reputation.

Former ambassador to India Lok Raj Baral urged the parties not to downplay Nepal's strength in the international stage while referring to the talks going on about Sikkimidation of Nepal.

He stressed that the Nepal could enhance its international image by ending internal problems. nepalnews.com ps May 22 08
