Educational institutions closed in capital
All educational institutions in the capital remained shut on Wednesday
following a protest call by the Institutional School Teachers' Union
(ISTU) alleging the government of not abiding by the past agreements.
The ISTU said raising salaries and benefits of teachers in the private schools at par with that of the government schools and similar understandings reached in the past have not been implemented. Additionally, the organisation demanded nationalisation of all private schools but objected the imposition of five percent education tax, which it said will put burden to guardians.
Alleging that government only gave assurances but did not address their grievances, ISTU warned to continue protests.
The organisation demanded reappointment of 18 teachers, expelled about two weeks back by a private school in Kathmandu. nepalnews.com ia Nov 19 08
