Speaking at a function in capital Wednesday, Gajurel said his party would never accept parliamentary system, adding democracy is not judged only by the presence of parliamentary politics.
Stating parliamentary democracy to be a regressive political system, Gajurel said debate on establishment of People's Republic in Nepal has started. "We fought for People's republic, not others," he added.
Bhim Rawal of CPN (UML), a coalition partner in the government, said his party would work on writing constitution based on principles of Naya Janabad, propounded by his party's late general secretary Madan Bhandari.
Rawal was dubious that Maoists will be able to write the new constitution that would pave way for establishment of one-party communist rule in Nepal.
Dr Minendra Rijal of Nepali Congress criticised Maoists of attacking on democracy and parliamentary system, which they have already announced to accept. Tracing the history of Lenin abolishing parliamentary system to establish a communist state, Rijal said Maoists are moving on the same line.
