Pauli's warning to rebels…is EU's message!
Undoubtedly, Prachanda is a wise and sensible man as it becomes clear from what he says in his interviews granted to some selected papers. This is also true that his second man in the party's hierarchy Dr. Bhattarai is an acclaimed learned man whose talent and intelligence could be gauged in his penetrating articles. All put together, the both who comprise the high command of the insurgent movement were men of intellect who possess hatred for what they have been now.
However, the tragedy has been that the violent actions, abductions, and bombings that they have been continuing even till today
Makes one suspect of their inner mind with what they in effect have been propagating of late through the kind courtesies of the media. The ongoing violent practices belies the rhetoric what they have been managing to send across the nation and beyond as well.
Their assurances provided to the parliamentary parties that they wish entering into the competitive politics did in no way match with the current practices of frightening the people.
To the extent that their cadres only the other day terrified the innocent souls who were appearing in their School Leaving Certificate examinations which caused several injuries and more so jolted the very child psychology of the examinees appearing in the examinations. Let's presume for the moment that the kids in their teens must have had a hard time to endure the traumatic experiences to what they were suddenly subjected to. What crime the tender Nepali hearts had committed against the party now headed by the two learned men? For what a fault have they been penalized? The kids and their parents and the population demand answers from the high command of the party that jolted the innocent hearts, which will perhaps reverberate in their minds for long.
Words must match with deeds Sirs! We appeal the men controlling the high command of the party of the rebels not to repeat such blunders which possessed the potential of sending signals across the nation and more so among the tender souls that the rebels will never change their violent actions even in the face that they have been hinting at that.
In effect, the frightening news that one SLC examination hall in the western region of the country had been the target of a powerful explosive wherein a good number of school boys and some men involved in taking charge of the examination got badly injured spread like a wild fire which only eroded the image of the party and not the other wise. To the extent that the mainstream political parties who have had recently inked a deal with them too could not dare to defend the explosion at the center of the examination hall.
Let's presume for a moment that those who managed the explosion to occur did not do so at the instructions of the high command. If it is so then the entire event takes a new but unbelievable turn for a variety of reasons. If the explosion were made on the will of the cadres then this is a warning to the high command that their cadres were not in their grips and that the cadres had become reckless who now have collected the courage of even disobeying the very instructions of their party bosses. Or one more conclusion could well be drawn. What could be that? It could be that there lacked proper coordination in between the cadres and the high command. Or at best communication gap could have resulted in this sad event.
Whatever might be the case, the fact is that damage has already been done. The damage is indeed an irreparable one in the sense that this particular event that shook the local earth, which terrified the innocent souls, might never forget this event-the persistence of which would mean certainly a negative point for the rebels.
The Maoists continued acts of violence and terror remains intact even if the "mild" and "modest" supporters of the Maoists in the European nations have been appealing the rebel camp to change their attitude and prove that they want to change from what they were today and prove their credentials by appearing in new clothes. The latest in the series of appeal to the Maoists in this regard has come from none less than Pauli Mustonen, the Finland Charge de' Affaires who also is concurrently the in-charge of the EU Presidency. Mustonen has in no uncertain terms warned the Maoists to act in a manner as they have been talking in interviews and have made known to the parliamentary parties that they wish to enter into the mainstream politics and refrain from their continued acts of violence and terror or else in his own words "they would be obliged to draw appropriate conclusions".
Pauli's warning is loaded with meaning and failing to understand the inner messages of his saying might erode the credibility of the rebels that they so far have been enjoying from the entire European community.
Let's presume that the rebel high command will act as per the voices of the common Nepali men and women and also take note of the concerns being expressed by the developed countries-in this case the European Union.
It is now the turn of sensible Prachanda and Dr. Bhattarai to act in a manner that suits and is compatible to their fresh line of thinking.
