Genetic illumination!

Niraj Aryal

The genetically impaired players from South Asian subcontinent, in terms of their physical fitness, continue to be hammered by their opposition originating from rest of the Asian Countries participating in the Asian Game Competitions being held in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Players from India, where more than a billion South Asians make their home, taking part in various sporting events in the past and also in the ongoing Asian Games have been unable to cast any impact as yet. This should be a matter of disappointment for all the South Asians.

The Indian depressing performance was always predicted though, as a report printed a few years back in the Times of India, an Indian English language daily stated that players from the South Asian subcontinent as compared to their counterparts from Africa, Europe or even from China, Korea and other East Asian players lack certain type of gene in their body parts that makes their body physically fit.

In a recently concluded One-Day Cricket series held in South Africa, the host team hammered the visiting cricket team from India by a margin of 4-0. The results from past shows, no matter the visiting team is India or Pakistan or Sri-Lanka or the cricketing minnows Bangladesh, visiting South Asian teams face the same fate. Thanks god, Nepal is just an emerging nation in the Cricketing world.

But the moot questions always remains and that is, Are we genetically impaired?

That was just a preamble though.

Compared to our sporting dwarf ness, political activities are always lofty in this part of the world as compared to the rest of the countries. For example India and Pakistan still remain politically unstable after more than sixty years of independence. It is better to call Bangladesh hyperactive in terms of continues political standoff. Recent political turmoil in Bangladesh concerning the removal of election commissioner made headlines all over. Sri Lanka is yet to find solution to their aging conflict. Nepal went through various phases of political instability giving way to a violent conflict lasting more than a decade. Perhaps we are genetically enhanced in this matter. This enhancement though has brought our downfall; we still intrude and conspire upon our own and also our neighbors. Altogether this has brought no good to the region. In general we fail in the International front but try to compensate it in our neighborhood.
