Media must play constructive role!
We create and dismantle. We are the harbingers of change in the society. Concurrently we are dubbed as those who shake the very foundations of the society and encourage turbulence in the environ we ourselves live in. We construct and become instruments of destruction at times.
We expose the corrupts but we get irritated when some one exposes our own dark sides that we have all in abundance. We inform the society and more often than not misinform the laymen to the extent that they get finally confused by our own writings.
We toe political lines and possess hatred for others who with equal force exhibit their inclination for this or that political parties.
We make the nation and more often than not cause its own destruction in our own special manner. We cause immense irritation to others but get irritated when some one with equal force pounces upon us.
We teach others to be responsible but we ourselves become irresponsible more often than not.
We are a corrupt lot ourselves but see others as to have been more corrupt on the corruption scale.
We pose that we know every thing under the sun and thus force the society to obey to our dictates. On the contrary, we possess no tolerance for those who happen to guide us with constructive ideas at times.
We are with the government and concurrently we are side by side with the opposition on political matters.
We at times pose that we too were political animals, which we are not. We talk of politics as if we have had mastered the internal nitty-gritty's of politics. We at times forget or pretend to forget that we can't be every thing at a time and that we can not mislead the society for long time to come.
We are jack of all trades but master of none.
Who could be the special breed of the people mentioned with all these qualities? Needless to say, we were the people in the media.
Of late a sort of marathon race is on in the media sector to proclaim that one were more democratic than Abraham Lincoln itself. The race is on to send a message to the present power corridor that some were more "Catholic than the Pope" itself. The race is continuing with full energy to exhibit to the society that some were more "holier than thou".
However, what we were and what we are at the moment, the people, the society and the nation at large know it well. No ballooning of one's claims would work. The people have become more conscious about and possess the ability to judge our past performances and accomplishments and hence some one should not dare to make extra adventures to show that they were more significant in the changes political context. Frankly speaking, we in the media must remain impartial to the events and encourage the political changes so far achieved to get institutionalized so that we are not subjected to any sort of trials and tribulation of the sorts of what we have had in the past.
We should not get tempted in grabbing powers. We have a different duty allotted for us or at best we have ourselves chosen the path where to go and how to go.
Instead of quarrelling with our own brethren in the profession let's vow that we will work together and make this nation a strong one and enhance its sinking image in the global community.
The politics of vengeance or for that matter that of vendetta that we have initiated in the present days against the other lot will prove more harmful than good not only for the profession but for the nation as well. If it is so, the politics of vengeance will continue for ever with no end.
It is time that we cooperate with each other and embrace all wherever they might be and work for the betterment of the nation which is poised for a epoch-making changes. It is time to restore peace. Let's convince the insurgents that they too were the sons of the same soil and hence it becomes their bounden duty for the restoration of peace in their own battered country.
Let's pray for peace. Let's pray for the success of the talks without aligning ourselves to any camps in the talks. Let's facilitate the atmosphere of the talks so that positive results come to the fore.
