Will you dare to expose the names of those funded by various 'unscrupulous agencies'
N.P.UPADHYAYA
Yet another fresh effort has been made by a certain interested quarter to malign a section of the Nepali media alleging that they have had been supporting the erstwhile regime and had been gaining financially.
The trend that has slowly taking the form of a tradition to undermine the entire other set of the "liberal democratic" media by a section of "high-caste revolutionary" media bodes ill for the overall unity and the integrity of the nation's media.
Taking the holier than thou approach will ultimately boomerang on the new order that has yet to take its roots in the new Nepali society.
Question immediately could be asked of them as to who had been funding the high-caste media prior to the Royal takeover? Who were the recipients of lucrative amounts during the Premiership of Koirala, Thapa, Chand and more so during the tenure of Sher Bahadur Deuba?
If this new government can dare to bring out the names of those who benefited from the Royal regime, then, as a matter of fact, this government can also find out the very names of those high-caste priests in the Nepali media who had enjoyed government perks during the tenures of various democratic governments in the recent past. The documents should be safe in the ministries, I suppose.
However, this the government will not do so for known reasons. If the government does so and exposes the so-called democratic or the revolutionary media, the other moment the establishment will crumble.
The revolutionary type of government that falsely it poses to be can dare to collect the information that which media men were on the pay roll of some missions? Can this government collect the courage to print the names of those who have been worshipping other's motherland much more than their own? Against what? Can the government through the kind courtesy of its own intelligence machinery find out the very good names of those high flying hacks who have been working for or on behalf of some notorious intelligence agencies of one particular country?
Some body in the recent days has told me that a LESBIAN in Kathmandu is the ringleader of this notorious agency who is spreading various kinds of baseless and malicious rumors about this country. I am also told that this lady has penetrated deep into the domain of Nepali media. However, the authenticity of this rumor is yet to be established. Our sleuths are investigating the matter seriously. Achtung! Wuwaga! Be careful Nepali journalists!
No the government can't do this for fear of inviting an instant collapse. Here lay the reasons as to why some interested quarters wish to indulge in mud slinging perhaps to show that they were less ugly than the rest.
In the bathroom, every body, he or she, is naked. Resorting to retaliatory measures will invite yet another counter retaliation and the process will thus continue to the ultimate peril of the entire Nepali media.
I guess some one, near or far, is hell bent on bringing about a vertical split in the Nepal's media sector. Why not to expose that nasty fellow or for that matter that particular intelligence agency which has a track record of penetrating into the domain of the media in the entire South Asian region.. This should explain the message.
