Political guards have changed; mentality remains same

N.P.UPADHYAYA

Nepalese leaders' are a kind lot on an average. They have a convention of showing their profound thankfulness towards all those political animals, HR activists, civil society members and the media men who have had served their cause in the recent past. Save a few, most of their seen and unseen supporters get rewarded according to their status and the enormity of the service rendered at time of their crucial need.

So let's conclude that no service rendered remains un-rewarded.

The royalists were rewarded during the erstwhile regime. This is a fact. The perks and the facilities were provided to the persons according to their services. Those who were left out in the cold naturally had no preference left other than to join the popular movement-2, as it is widely called.

Now the first set is "away from home" and thus the posts thus occupied by the royalists have got to be filled by those who remained instrumental in giving a shape to the movement-2. Undenyingly, some did out of their conviction and the rest joined the movement because they were not acknowledged by the royal regime.

Now it is time that the unoccupied posts of the erstwhile era should be filled with "fitting" candidates who were acclaimed HR activists, Civil society members and media men during the recent past and had worked for the collapse of the one-time regime. And this is being done so to keep the "tradition" alive.

We believe in tradition and we do not want to break the traditions all at a go. Thus there is a race in between and among the "democrats" of the highest order for grabbing the lucrative posts now remaining vacant due to the sudden and untimely fall of the past regime. In doing so we are maintaining the "tradition". Not a bad tradition indeed.

Nothing to panic.

The new government has begun constituting committees. The faces seen and the names declared who will take care after the jobs that has been entrusted to the committee were none other than those faces who were the ones to cry as louder as they can against the previous regime. Now if they demand or for that matter were picked up to enjoy the fruits of the success of the movement-2, no wonder then. Those who work with dedication must be honored. And more so when one worked for a political cause, how he or she could be left out in the cold? Fellow colleagues! Rush and get a post according to your service. This is your right. Don’t' feel ashamed. You have been keeping the tradition alive.

Look at the faces who have been heading the various committees formed after the April movement were all those who were more political than the political leaders and thus what is the harm if they are rewarded? After all the services rendered in the recent past were not for free?

The tragedy has been that the government and the political parties have been doing the same blunder what caused the very collapse of the previous government.

No wonder that the political parties will toe the same line that have had a very bad impact on the minds of the population when they were in power.

Will the Maoists change the system of picking up members or selecting the members for a committee in an arbitrary manner? Or will they too toe the same pattern?

We find no difference in between the two. At best the first set has facilitated the way for the second set.

Nothing more than that.
