Don't repeat such blunders!

Enough is enough. It is enough because the events albeit sad ones and that too in series have crossed the limits by any measurable standards. One he who hopes that he would get solace and secured atmosphere for living a secured life in the society and if he is cheated or deceived by the ones who have been told by the State to safeguard one's interests and provide securities to the lives of the general population then understandably the cheated population thus is forced to conclude that the State has so far not been able to tame its own security agency in a manner it should have done.

The security organs of the State are expected in any civilized democratic society to act as per the instructions of the State authorities. The men falling under this regime are expected to do their job honestly and carefully so that the local population who bank upon their vigilance and prompt actions against the wrongdoers can sleep with a free mind and heart. However, when those serving the nation enjoying nation's salary begin acting as nefarious elements themselves then the entire society gets disturbed to the extent that they begin suspecting the very credentials of the state itself and indeed of the agency which is dealing with the preservation of security matters.

Two such ghastly incidents have recently occurred in the valley, which has jolted the local populace. These events in series does tell as to how at times the Policemen go berserk and terrorize the people. The two events have not only eroded the very credentials of the State but have also exposed the agency hinting at the fact that the Police authorities seated in Naxal have yet to tame some of its junior level cadres to the extent it should have been in effect.

This also shows that the Police administration has yet to discipline its cadres. Not only this, the said administration also has lacked in imparting a sense of duty towards what the policeman should have on the population. A population that entirely remained assured and slept in peace with the presence of the police personnel even in its vicinity now has begun thinking what should happen to the State of those entrusted to provide security to the lay men themselves begin terrorizing the population and that too like anti social elements?

The story of the two policemen entering into the house of an individual in Kathmandu last week with pistols and with an intention to amass wealth out of their misadventure does tell that in the Police force some rotten eggs have found places. It would be wise on the part of the government to go on in a search of such rotten eggs in the entire paraphernalia and sack them immediately in order to continue with its credentials. Failing to do so on time would do more harm than good to the image of the administration and the nation ultimately.

In yet another horrible event one policeman in his official uniform was mercilessly tortured who moved to a local publication house with his half-shaved head to avoid further torture at the hands of his bosses at the Head quarters. Later this policeman was arrested by his colleagues and put behind bars. Well, let's presume for as moment, even if the man in uniform had committed blunders which demanded penal actions then also the manner he was provided with the medieval age treatment was awesome to look even. Though the apex court has told the police authorities to present the half-shaved policemen to the court in person but then yet immaterial of the court's decision, the penal action provided to the victim was an ugly scene which should in no way be repeated in this civilized world.

We appeal the government more so the concerned minister to go deep into the matter and bring to book all those involved in such a third-degree torture which should have already been a matter of obsolete phenomenon by now more so in the beginning of the 21 st century.

All these put together makes it clear that the Police administration is not bereft of reforms. The reforms that are needed urgently and steadfastly if it were to save its deteriorating image in the world community further.

Should "we the people" hope that such horrible scenes would not recur in the future? Let it be so or else "we the people" will be forced to conclude we have been left at the hands of those who believe in third-degree torture and not the otherwise which is what should be expected of them.

Finally we appeal the Police administration to check such ugly events in order to manage a place in the hearts of "we the people".
