Power

Niraj Aryal

When the power is one step ahead, what will Prachanda and Baburam do? Will they take part in the government? Are they made in the same mould as Girija Prasad and Madhav Kumar, it is completely a different matter that for the moment for a variety of political compulsions/pressures they bear a different look but previously they were universally known for their lust for power.

But talking of the Maoist leaders, I may be wrong. Nevertheless, I see the Maoists leaders rather becoming more and more anxious. And it might again be wrong saying that their anxiety is tipping off their thirst for power. But the question is; is it totally unnatural for a normal human being to behave in this manner? No, its certainly not! The first chapter of political science abundantly makes it clear that any political animal jumps into the domain of poliotics to be in the corridors of power. But for the Maoist leaders who call themselves the saviors of the poor, the oppressed, the discriminated, and the divided, there is a sense of uneasiness unnecessarily propagating among the mass from their recent avowals.

I am saying this because Prachanda is continuing with his interview spree to date; Baburam matches his boss to the hilt, and there are other Maoist leaders conveying their views through various media channels. Most important of it all is the point that all media coverage on the Maoists leaders provides ambiguous stance, thus yet remains a mystery, what exactly the Maoists leaders are trying to convey to the people?

While talking to the Media and attending the general mass the Maoists ferociously reject the present governments’ initiatives but issuing their press-release at the later stage welcome the present governments’ moves. In other words, they differ with the processes but they are happy with the end results, this is what Baburam Bhattarai had to say in a recent interview with the BBC. Isn’t it some what baffling on the part of the Maoists' or rather a compulsion because of their inability to convince their own cadres to the recent political developments which they themselves are a part of it or may even be the growing fear the leaders face from their own cadres, who initially were crammed with ferocious slogans and at the end their leaders seem to succumb to their lust for power.

How possible is it that the Maoists at the later stage back off from their present stance? This may be highly unlikely because coming so close to the power it would be a big blunder on their part to retract from their present posture. Equally, the reason that, as the Maoist supports claim that the RNA (Royal Nepal Army) bears an exhausted look, it won’t be wrong to indicate that the Maoists front fighters may also have been exhausted fighting the war that never seemed to have an end until a fortnight ago.

Any way, the day is approaching; and it is an accepted fact that their courageous and hilarious efforts made in the last decade is paying them back with handsome dividends. More important it would be for the Maoists to act upon their avowals as quickly as possible rather than faltering at the later stage like their colleagues in the congress and the UML.

Amid growing hopes and aspirations will the Maoists be able to keep up with their promises is to be seen in the near future. Keep your fingers crossed till then!
