"More Catholic than the Pope"!

N.P.UPADHYAYA

A sort of competition appears to be there in the present day society to malign other's prestige and popularity.

Similarly, an act of mud slinging onto the personality of the others those who differ with a special set of actors in order to degrade the other set is in full practice.

The act of such, let's call it an act of vendetta", is there for all to see.

This means that a set is all prepared to defame the other set by using any method, be it logical or otherwise.

The events are countless but we have selected just one piece from the media domain to inform our readers as to what is happening today in our country. The same applies to politics.

Recently a paper printed the names of those who had pocketed some amount from the government.

A close investigation to that matter which was so badly printed by a paper by this weekly revealed that all those who have had received such amounts were in no way an act that could be dubbed as illegal.

What was found that the money thus received was through the publication of some advertisements and that too when an official department of the government had sent the editors a letter asking them all to print the attached advertisements and later produce the bills for payment along with the printed materials in their respective newspapers.

What was also found was that those who received money as against the advertisement were paid by the government owned department through the legal tender that is through Nepal Rastra Bank Cheque.

Later the department also revealed that as per the government's instructions and as a matter of rule, those who received such bank cheques have had to bear with the VAT, Value Added Tax, factor which meant that the recipients of such advertisements have had to pay the VAT bill as well.

And thus they received the money undergoing all the official processes that are in practice as and when any individual or for that matter even a pressman gets government's orders for the publication of advertisements.

But the said newspaperman publicized the matter out of proportion in a manner with the sole aim to degrade the personalities of his colleagues. He even forgot that the media men have had to travel in the same boats most of the times. He ignored the fact knowingly that those who dare to expose others should also remain alert from what others say of him.

I am not pleased to say but have to admit that he falls under the category of a selected few friends whom I presume were my best friends. Whether I am mistaken or he is the time will decide?

He should understand that government rules and instructions are binding upon us all including the one who has so blatantly tried to damage some of his colleagues. He should understand that there are some who possess Himalayan courage and strength who could not be damaged by the height what he possess at the moment.

In sum, it was a case wherein one gentleman wanted to claim that he was "holier than thou". Or even you can call it an act wherein one Roman Catholic on the streets of the Vatican began shouting that he was "More Catholic than the Pope"!
