If you recall Comrade Prachanda?
This week in effect I have nothing to write and comment upon.
Nevertheless, I wish to remind the Supreme Commander of the People's War, Comrade Prachanda alias Pushpa Kamal Dahal as to where his first five points stood at the moment after his freshly concluded Delhi sojourn.
Prachanda perhaps knows it well that prior to his party going to th jungles have had submitted some forty plus points to the then government then headed by Sher Bhadaur Deuba for redressed. The fact is that Deuba turned down his party's appeal which facilitated, as they claimed later, to enter into the jungles for the achievement of those "demands".
Looking at the first four or five demands pushed to the perusal of Deuba, the intellectuals then had concluded that the Maoists party was truly a nationalist force and hence Deuba did a blunder by not heeding to their demands even on a partial basis.
However, the manner Prachanda became emotional in India while meeting his long time associates and the way he has praised the Indian establishment forces us now to conclude that Prachanda will do little to act upon the first four demands for a variety of political reasons.
Look what those first points were: "All discriminatory treaties, including the 1950 Nepal-India Treaty, should be abrogated".
"The so-called Integrated Mahakali Treaty concluded on 29 January, 1996 should be repealed immediately, as it is designed to conceal the disastrous Tanakpur Treaty and allows Indian imperialist monopoly over Nepal's water resources".
"The open border between Nepal and India should be regulated, controlled and systematized. All vehicles with Indian licence plates should be banned from Nepal".
"The Gurkha/Gorkha Recruitment Centres should be closed. Nepali citizens should be provided dignified employment in the country".
"Nepali workers should be given priority in different sectors. A 'work permit' system should be strictly implemented if foreign workers are required in the country".
"The domination of foreign capital in Nepali industries, business and finance should be stopped".
Without making any comments, I wish here to remind Comrade Prachanda as to where his party stands now on these genuine national issues once raised by him and his party.
We will wait until you answer Comrade Prachanda. It is just a modest reminder to you and your party. Whether you will stick to your demands or not is my concern.
