The unity among the leaders present in and out of the reinstated parliament that has brought about some historical changes in the country is a matter of discussion. What made our leaders alike cats and dogs to suddenly find this unusual amity? This is also a matter of debate.

In the analysis to follow, to keep the credit for the current development within the country, external interferences to restore peace in the country are intentionally avoided. Thus the exchange of visits going from Kathmandu to Delhi or vice versa by our leaders and also our neighboring leaders during the peak period of anarchy that continues till to date is deliberately avoided.

To continue with the analysis, I would rather say there are few occasions that signal King Gyanendra’s past regressive moves need some applause. His moves, be them committed knowingly or unknowingly in the past were applauded by the political quarters close to him but were termed as regressive from the rest of the political quarters in the country.

His moves made in the past, turned out to be blunders for the King himself, more so to his past supporters presently. Whereas, the same moves turned out to become blessing in disguise for the Political Parties, the Maoists and above all the people, who were all, looking for a swift exit from the past decade of anarchy and terror. Analyzing further, King Gyanendra’s regressive moves allowed the Maoists to play their cards that allowed them to forge a compromise with the political parties, which was out of question in the beginning of the rebellion.

The political parties, who were in the beginning the main enemy of the Maoists, too realized the worth of siding along with the rebels to correct their past multidimensional blunders and to force the King to reinstate the adjourned parliament. The King yielded to the internal pressure to reinstate the parliament.

Let us not remember those nineteen days of horror in between but come down straightly to the present situation where we are still taking a sigh of relief from more than a decade long bloodshed. But if we look back into those horrific days, the conclusion seems to be quite interesting though, had King Gyanendra been extra imaginative and avoided committing such blunders, he might have been in a secured position himself, that looks vulnerable at the moment but the present relief found by the people from the decade long violence and the political instability may not have been achieved. That also allowed our leaders to discover this present unity. Talking about this unity again, it is so interesting that political parties whether they are from left or right are carrying similar agendas at this time. One of the agenda that of late contributed to add more pillars to this unity has been the Controversial Citizenship act that experts declare would pave way for neighbors to easily get a citizen in this country. To the surprise of all this amity was seen in the past, to add, it was the same parliament that had passed a controversial treaty called the Mahakalai Treaty with an overwhelming majority.
