Nepal thrown to mercy of Media colonialism

It has rightly been said that when the God wants to destroy a person, he first makes him mad. The rest the madness in him accomplishes.

This is what exactly has in Nepal the other day.

A set of media leaders, which they are not in any sense of the term as much as is visible from their erratic performances, have recently suggested the Prime Minister of the country that "foren" investments in Nepal's media sector be allowed unhindered.

Nevertheless, some preconditions have been added for the said foren investments to come in Nepal which has apparently been added in the suggestions in order to exhibit that even if such investments come, it would be completely under the surveillance of the Nepalese personnel.

Frankly speaking, what "foren" investments mean in the given scheme of things in Nepal and more so in the media sector is any body's guess. We have only two such "foren" investments in this country as of today, but what those two broad sheet dailies write and inform the Nepalese people is well knows to us all. What these two "foren" media now operating in Nepal have not written so far, mercifully, that Nepal be annexed to the Indian Union once and for all.

So it is any body's guess to speculate under whose or which forces' instructions or command, or even hidden suggestions, the media group might have come up with such anti-national, which it is by all means, recommendations.

We deplore the suggestions pushed by the leaders of the media recently and appeal the prime minister to take up the matter seriously and act in a manner that does not impinge upon the genuine national interests of the country which was never colonized.

Media colonialism should be not allowed a free play in Nepal. Care must be taken that Nepal's independent media sector do not get a jolt that they are not able even to sustain their existence.

It is time that the Prime Minister ponders over the matter and takes a decision that frees Nepal from the impending threat to territorial integrity and even independence. The Prime Minister should know of the wider ramifications of such a suggestion on the overall political health of the country. We presume that Koirala would do justice with the nepali media sector that is still in a fledgling state.

Two such foren investments have become enough to digest. No more please.
