Senior CPC official urges study of Party congress's essence

BEIJING, (Xinhua) -- As its main political task for the time being, the entire Communist Party of China (CPC) should study and faithfully implement the essence of the just-concluded 17th CPC National Congress, a senior CPC official said here on Monday.

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks when he met with members of a CPC delegation who will go around the country to promote the study and implementation of the essence of the congress.

The delegation will give its first lecture on Nov. 5, and its members will fan out across the country to deliver more lectures starting from Nov. 6.

Li told the delegation members to publicize the essence of the congress comprehensively, accurately and intensively.

The delegation members should focus their lectures on the theme of the congress, explaining the great historical cause and the invaluable experience of reform and opening up, the Scientific Outlook on Development, the new requirements for building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and the overall arrangements for the four-in-one economic, political, cultural and social development, Li said.

Present at the meeting were CPC Central Committee Publicity Department head Liu Yunshan and State Councilor Chen Zhili.

A380 production ramp-up revisited

Airbus has completed the A380 programme review and is now informing customers about changes to its delivery schedule. The review assessed the programme status at the critical juncture of transitioning from low rate "individual" production, so-called Wave 1, to the full serial design and manufacturing process, called Wave 2.

Overall, the recovery programme, initiated in summer 2006, is progressing well. Four aircraft were delivered as planned and are performing very well in airline operations on long-range routes. Seventeen aircraft are in various stages of production, mainly in the wiring installation and system testing phases. Most aircraft earmarked for delivery in 2008 have already flown.

However, the review has also shown that the steep ramp-up planned in 2006 is not fully achievable. Time and resources needed for Wave 1 production aircraft are higher than expected, and this has created some delay in the changeover to Wave 2 with its new design and manufacturing process.

As a result, Airbus plans now for 12 (instead of 13) deliveries in 2008 and 21 (instead of 25) in 2009. Details about the new plan and the further ramp-up and delivery slots in 2010 and the following years will be discussed with customers in the coming weeks.

The results of this review do not, at this stage, cover the financial impact. The extent of the additional costs will be influenced by the actual production and delivery scenario. This will follow discussions with the customers and a more precise evaluation of the implications of the new delivery schedule for 2010 deliveries and beyond. This will therefore take some more time to determine.

Pyongyang Metro

The Pyongyang Metro is a monumental structure built in the capital city of Pyongyang for the convenience of traffic of the people.

This metro, whose lines stretch out to the north, south, east and west from the central part of Pyongyang, was built in four stages from the time it was commissioned in September Juche 62 (1973) to April Juche 76 (1987).

Though its construction deep in the underground was enormous, the Korean people built it with their own technology, material, equipment and labour.

Stations are situated in places convenient to the citizens' traffic.

The entrances to the metro look nice with the buildings around and can be easily spotted by people.

Escalators carry passengers up and down the metro.

Underground stations are all gorgeous and splendid although they are different from one another in size and structure. Some stations including Yonggwang Station are spacious and others have pillars with splendid decorations. Their walls bear large-sized murals depicting the glorious revolutionary history of the Korean people.

The murals, whose contents have been delineated according to the characteristics of each station in diverse forms such as bronze sculptures in relief and mosaic murals, vividly show the high national pride of the Korean people and the looks of the country developing and prospering ever more rapidly with the passage of time.

The metro is furnished with air conditioners and other structures and equipment necessary for its managing and running, so the air in it is always clean and cool.

The Pyongyang Metro is widely used as traffic means of the people and an inspection place of people at home and abroad.
