Encroachment
of public land on rise
-By a Post Reporter
JAJARKOT, Dec 28 - There
has been increasing encroachment on public land by people fleeing
their homes due to fear from Maoists and police and thronging to the
district headquarters.
Small children have to
face minor accidents almost daily because the roads are becoming
narrower because of the encroachment from people building houses on
either sides and mules walking on the same road causing further
congestion.
Khalanga VDC chairman Top
Bahadur Thapa said those who encroach on public land will be fined 5
thousand rupees and people will be allowed to build houses only on the
basis of approved designs.
There is also no dearth of
those who plant different fruit trees including banana, bamboo and
other varieties in the forests handed over to the communities and
claiming the land as their own after a few years with the complicity
of the employees of the Land Revenue Office.
The unsystematic
resettlement has also adversely affected in the water supply system,
engineer Basu Dev Poudel said.
As the people are
connecting the water supply at their homes at their own free will, it
has adversely affected the public water taps such as in schools,
campuses, district hospital, women’s hostel and district forest
nursery for the last three years.
