RCT reserve semifinal berth

By a Post Reporter

KATHMANDU, April 17- RCT booked their place in the semi-finals of the Pasang Lhamu Memorial Football tournament here today as they edged out Three Star Club 3-1 in the quarter-finals.

Both the teams failed to make much heedaway in the early minutes of the match as the ball mainly revolved in the middle. It was towards the later stages of the first half that Three Star were able to make a number of threatening moves and upto the first half were looking a better side.

They, however, had to bear the burden of seeing the back of their star player Depak Amatya who had to leave the field midway through the first half due to injury. Amatya sustained the injury when he tried a header in front of the RCT goal post.

In the 30th minute Three Star’s Ananta Thapa produced a long range shot that almost dodged the RCT keeper. But the keeper Ramesh Lama somehow managed to push the ball wide.

Five minutes later Three Star’s Chet Narayan produced a powerful volley but the keeper was equal to the task.

In the 36th minute Three Star’s Shree Man Gurung gave a good pass to Sanjeev Pandey who just failed to connect his shot properly.

RCT, against the run of play almost went ahead in the 40th minute when Amrit Bajracharya sent a powerful header but only to see the ball go straight into the keeper’s body.

Three Star finally got their lead just into the injury time of the first half when Shyam Manandhar made it 1-0 in a goal mouth milieu.

If the first half was Three Star’s, the second half belonged to RCT altogether. First they equalised in the 19th minute through Narayan Manadhar who shot a powerful shot that proved good enough for custodian Lama.

Ten minutes later Bal Gopal made it 2-1 when he was given a beautiful pass by teammate Nirajan Rayamajhi.

RCT launchpad continued then after as well and in the 31st minute Ramesh Gyawali unleashed a poweful shot that was blocked by the woodwork. A ball rose beautifully for a waiting Amrit Bajracharya who tamely headed it home to make it 3-1.

Minutes later Nirajan Rayamajhi missed another chance when he failed to control the ball in front of an open goalmouth.

Nepal’s Under-16 will clash against Manang Marshyangdi in the last quarter-final tomorrow.
