ADDC/N office-bearers press demands

LALITPUR, April 25 - Krishna
Prasad Sapkota has been elected to the post of the Chairperson of Association of District
Development Committees of Nepal (ADDC/N).
Sixth Council and the third
Conference of ADDC/N which concluded here on April 23 elected 23-member working committee
along with Sapkota. This was formally stated at a press meet organised by ADDC/n here
today.
ADDC/N Spokesperson-elect
Krishna Prasad Jaisi told the reporters that the new working committee also handed a
memorandum with 19-point demand to the prime minister demanding the government to approve
the project passed by the District Council as it is and also to disburse the budget for
the district from the concerned district instead of the centre in line with the Local
Autonomy Act.
It also demanded that
programmes like Bisheshowre with the Poor, Ganesh Man Santi Aviyan, Women awareness and
income generation programmes should be operated through the local administration.
The new working committee
also demanded that the government resolve the Maoist crisis through dialogue and provide
ample compensations to the victims of the crisis. Representation of ADDC/N on the Tariff
Board was another demand made to the Prime Minster.
Other demands include
regulation of the "irregular" tariff by private plane and helicopter services on
remote districts without road accesses. "We also urged the Prime Minster to allocate
some portion of the tourism tax from the tourist areas of the districts for the
development of the concerned districts," said Deep Bahadur Shahi, chairperson of
Kalikot DDC and working committee member-elect of ADDC/N.
Besides the 19-point memorandum, the new
working committee also demanded that the government immediately withdraw its decision of
price hikes in basic commodities like food, electricity and water. Immediate preparation
of Detailed Project Report (DPR) in line with the Mahakali Treaty and ratification of
property rights bill were some other demands of ADDC/N.
