MMC receive Marty's Memorial Trophy

LALITPUR, Aug 10 - The prize distribution ceremony of the Martyrs Memorial A
Division League 2057 was held Thursday at All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) complex,
Satdobato.
On the occasion, the ANFA president, Ganesh Thapa gave away prizes, medals
and certificates to the teams, outstanding players, and match officials.
The winners Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC), besides receiving the trophy also
collected the winners cheque of Rs 100,000. MMC, also the title winners in 2043, 2044 and
2046 titles, finished at the top with 31 points, 10 out of the total 11 league encounters
while their only draw came in against the title rival Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT).
RCT and Three Star Club, who finished second and third in the race received
Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. Friends' Club, Jawalakhel Youth Club and New Road
Team (NRT) collected Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 for coming at fourth, fifth and
sixth place in the competition. NRT also received Rs 5,000 as the fair play award.
The league registered 281 goals with nine sent offs and 154 yellow cards in
66 matches. Deepak Amatya scored the fastest goal in 14 seconds from the start of play,
Sankata either won or lost their matches and Bansbari Club, promoted to the A division two
years back, was the team to be relegated.
Among the individual winners, Bal Gopal Maharjan of RCT received Rs 2,000 as
he was declared the best midfielder of the league. Purna Limbu of NRT and Upendra Man
Singh of MMC also received Rs 2,000 each for being the best defender and goalkeeper
respectively while the award of Rs 5,000 for the highest goal-scorer went to RCT's
marksman Nirajan Rayamajhi with 23 goals to his credit.
Addressing the ceremony, ANFA chief Ganesh Thapa said that association would
be focusing its attentions towards raising the standard of club football in the country.
"In a quest to raise the standard of club football, we're planning a
premier division league from next year, featuring top eight clubs," Thapa said.
While mentioning the unprecedented attention that Nepal's youth project
received at the FIFA General Congress, he expressed hope that the FIFA Goal Project would
add further dimension towards the development of football in the country.
The premiership, which ANFA has planned to start from next year, will feature
top six A division teams from the Martyrs League and two departmental teams.
Earlier, the ANFA secretary-general, Lok Bahadur Shahi, giving information
about the league said that ANFA had provided each of the 12 participating teams with Rs
50,000 for preparation and that the league overcame a few incidents to emerge out as a
success. He also informed that the B division will be conducted with 10 teams from August
31.
ANFA vice-president and the league coordinator, Mahesh Bista, said that the
league's success was only due to the combined effort put in by the association, clubs,
media.
