Xaverians enter semis of Fr Moran Memorial football

Post Report

KATHMANDU, Dec 12 - St Xavier’s Godavari ‘Blue’ (SXG-B) and St Xavier’s Jawalakhel (SXJ) entered the semi-final stage of the Fr Moran Memorial Primary School Invitational football tournament edging past Brihaspati Vidyasadan and St Xavier’s Godavari ‘Gold’ (SXG-G) respectively.

SXG-B started on a positive note right from the start with Sabin Silwal’s header finding the net three minutes after the start. Brihaspati boys came back in the match scoring in the 32nd minute through Karan Adhikari - the first ever goal conceded by the SXG-B boys in the tournament. However, the game in the second half was tilted to SXG-B’s favor as they scored three more goals. Saurav Gurung scored twice in the space of two minutes as he shut the match for Brihaspati. He now has scored eleven goals in the tournament. Another scorer for SXG-B was Dipu Khadka who made it 4-1 for the Xavierians.

The match between ST Xavier’s Jawalakhel and St.Xavier’s Godavari ‘Gold’ was a one sided affair with SXJ winning the tie 5-0. Godavarians could never recover from the shock of the suicide goal, a deflection from their defender Ranjan Thapa, within the first minute of the game. The SXJ boys lead by 1 - 0 by the end of the half time. Against the expectations of the crowd Godavarians didn’t put up any fight. Instead, the SXJ boys found it easier to score in the second half adding their tally to five against nil. Bijaya Karki scored twice for the SXJ while Manish Shakya and Manish KC found the net once each.
