Kantipur Sports underway

BIRATNAGAR, Dec 13- Eighth Kantipur Daily Sports Championship got underway today, commemorating 56 th birthday of the King, with the inauguration of Snooker and Pool games by Shyam Bhakta Thapa, DIG of East Regional Police Office.

Bikash Khatiwada of Upiz Pool Club, Biratnagar today defeated Anuj Dahal of Pool Palace Club, Biratnagar in straight sets 3-0 to secure the first position in the Pool.

In the semi-final match played earlier, Khatiwada had beaten Anil Shakya and Anuj Dahal got past Pravin Dahal to enter the final.

In the Snooker matches played today, Anuj Dahal, Prabin Sharma, Ramesh dahal, Udaya Singh Baruwal, Prabin Dahal, Anil Shakya, Parash Gurung, Rajesh Karki, Bitu Basnet, Nawal Kishor Dev, Sambandha Shrestha, Amit Shrestha, Nabin Acharya, Raju Shrestha, Suman Haluwai and Amit Karki entered the second round.

A total of two hundred and six participants including five from Darjeeling, India are participating in the tournament.

Finals of Snooker and Karate will be played tomorrow.

Speaking in the inaugural ceremony, DIG Thapa said that Kantipur, in spite of being from a different field, has helped in the development of sportsmen.

Kantipur Publication has been organising the championship to commemorate His Majesty’s birthday.
