Ensure traffic safety

We all read the bad news about the accident of His Royal Highness Prince Nirajan. I would like to pray to God for his quick recovery. It is also evident from newspaper reports that the cause of the accident is due to the driver’s negligence.

In these days, with an ever increasing number of traffic vehicles, road accidents are common. Drivers do not care about "the right of way theory". Especially, small vehicles like motorcycles and three- wheel tempos are responsible for most of the accidents in Kathmandu Valley. Most of the time, I have seen them violating traffic rules. They pass from the wrong side of the road and drive in the middle of two lanes, blocking the traffic on both sides.

Once hailed as comfortable and eco-friendly vehicles, these very tempos are causing trouble now. Now, it is time the concerned authorities took action against such irresponsible drivers. They should be educated by means of posters and other media about "the right of way theory" and other traffic regulations. If stringent rules are enforced, along with awareness programmes, accidents in the Valley roads can be minimised.
