Lawmaker holds jeep for electricity

Post Report

HETAUDA, Dec 26 - Lawmaker from the Constituency No-3 of Makawanpur, Bir Bahadur Lama, said he held a jeep owned by the Kulekhani hydro-electric project under his control for three hours for not providing electricity to the villages affected by the project.

MP Lama said the seizure of the vehicle (Ba 1 Yan 1229) was a token of protest against the government, which had allocated only Rs 750,000 in the area. The government has allocated Rs 3.9 million for this fiscal year to the district for rural electricity.

The jeep was given back to the project chief, Rajendra Hada, after Hada agreed to supply electricity to the project-affected area.

Earlier, elected representatives of the Constituency had handed over a 13-point demand to the Ministry of Water Resources through the Chief District Officer. MP Lama warned of further protests unless their demands were fulfilled by the ministry.
