Sheer nonsense

When M R Josse quotes Pandit Nehru’s statement of March 17, 1950 in his article and says that New Delhi’s strategic view of the world has not changed since 1950 and gives the nuclear test conducted in May 1998 as an example of this, nothing could be more nonsensical than this. I hope he realises in good faith that the world has really changed in the last 50 years.

It is very clear from the press in India or the statements by Indian leaders that no one has the illusion of keeping Nepal as a security front against any other country, including China. When will people like Mr Josse understand that India is not interested in keeping any semblance of security on a sovereign country like Nepal? It was in this vein that Indian Ambassador Rajan had tried to elaborate for any intelligent, open-minded person, probably a misguided intellectual like Josse that India does not intend to bring Nepal under its security umbrella.

By accusing India as the main source behind the misinformation spread by Zee News, he is putting the government of Nepal in a spot. If what he is saying is right, shall we say that his writing in The Kathmandu Post has been sponsored by His Majesty’s Government of Nepal? There have been so many articles against India in newspapers here; are they all sponsored by His Majesty’s Government of Nepal?

Last but not the least, Mr Josse’s nonsensical explanations do not seem to be directed towards betterment of Nepal’s interests and, for that matter, India-Nepal relationship. It looks to be guided by a third force, which one needs to know. Will Mr Josse inform about this third force, which has guided him, in his next article?

Rama Poudel,
Kalimati, Kathmandu
