NPCC lift Shankar cricket championship

NEPALGUNJ, Feb 16- New Prakash Cricket Club (NPCC) lifted the Late Shankar Bahadur Shah Running Cricket championship here today.

In a one sided final they made a shortwork of the rivals Royal Sports Club. Chasing Prakash Cricket Club’s total of 181, Royal Sports Club were shut out for a unbelievable 37 runs. A pathetic batting display by Royal Sports Club meant that they not only lost the match by a huge margin of 144 runs but also disappointed a huge crowd that had gathered to enjoy the final match.

It was a devastating bowling spell by Prakash Cricket Club’s Arvind who broke the back of the Royal Sports Club’s batting line up by scalping the first four wickets to fall. Noted batsmen of the likes of Javed Siddiqui and Imtiaz Siddiqui fell prey to Arvind’s devastating pace. Both of them failed to trouble the score while Arvind’s two other scalps--the two openers had a single run against their names.

Royal Sports Club which depended so heavily on the Siddiqui duo was rocked by the early dismissal of their star batsmen. The score at this stage read 8-4. And the inning never seemed to recover from then on. They were 11-5, 11-6, 27-7 and then eventually all out for 37 runs.

Apart from Arvind, Rafiq was the other successful bowler picking up 3 wickets while Khagendra also had two wickets.

Earlier Prakash Star Club winning the toss and electing to bat first began their inning well with the openers putting on 39 runs for the opening partnership.

One down bat Narendra Sijapati was then involved in a 41 runs partnership for the second wicket that took the score to 81.

There were also valuable contribution from the middle order and the score at the end of the 40 overs was looking good enough to defend but it proved too good.

KDAAA undergo reformation

KATHMANDU, Feb 16 - A meeting held under the chairmanship of Kathmandu District Sports Development Committee (KDSDC) president Chandra Bikram Chalise has reformed Kathmandu District Amateur Athletics Association (KDAAA) with Raghu Raj Wanta as its president.

According to a press release issued by KDSDC on Wednesday, KDAAA has also established various sub-committees for the successful implementation of activities it has decided to organise this year.

KDAAA decided to give continuity to the annual open athletics meet on Friday to celebrate the Democracy Day. The meet was postponed for the last few years. And in keeping with the trend to feliciatate the famous athletes of the past, the association has decided to honour Jeet Bahadur KC this year in recognition to his contribution in the Nepalese athletics.

KC fetched Nepal the first ever medal in any sports in the international arena when he won silver medal at the 1973 Asian Track and Field Championship.

It was also stated that a felicitation programme would be organised jointly by KDSDC and KDAAA in honour of all the medal winning athletic players and coaches of the 8th South Asian Federation Games.

Besides, a decision was taken to develop an annual programme to further popularise the game in the district as well as to hold regular tournaments and tranings to improve the game’s standard.
