Books on social justice for students

KATHMANDU, Feb 18 - Three books entitled "Social Justice Education" were launched in a two-day seminar "Teachers’ Workshop on Social Justice Education" that ended here today.

The books provide an awareness to the problems affecting youth and the children today in the Nepali society. Although not in the school curriculum, the books are meant for providing social justice education to the students of grades 7, 8 and 9.

The two-day seminar also focused on social problems such as child labour, women trafficking, male prostitution and alcoholism. Ways to providing help to HIV victims, making of an ideal family and paying proper wages were also discussed.

Head of Social Work Department of St Xavier’s College Fr Charles Law, Senior Policy Research Officer of Action Aid Nepal Manavi Bista, Deputy Inspector of General of Police Govinda Thapa spoke on the seminar that was attended by teachers from 15 different schools inside the Valley.

As a project work, the books were prepared by three students of Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) Sabera Gurung, Kushum Sharma, Barsha Pradhan under the direction of Fr Charles Law and sponsorship from the International Labour Organization (ILO). Writers who contributed were Chandra Bosh and Fr Law.
