Nepal Open Snooker Championship begins

KATHMANDU, Feb 20 - All Nepal Carlsberg Open Snooker Championship gets
underway Monday at various snooker outlets throughout the country.
The first ever snooker tournament, with prize money in excess of seven
hundred thousand rupees, organised by Gorkha Brewery Ltd will be played in two rounds
under the prevailing rules of Billiards, Snooker and Pool Association of Nepal.
Some 1270 cueist, representing 43 snooker and pool houses of the country will
be starting the preliminary round. The winners and runners-up of the first round will
progress to the final round which will be held at the Tripureshwor Covered Hall from March
8.
The winner of the championship, besides the winners trophy will also
pocket a first placed cash prize of Rs 50,000 while Rs 30,000 has been set aside for the
runner-up. Likewise, the player with the highest break in the final round will receive Rs
15,000. There are also separate cash prizes of Rs7,500 each for the losing semifinalist
and Rs 5,000 each for three of the best snooker players of that round. The tournament
virtually has something for everyone as each of the preliminary winners, runners-up and
highest breakers will be getting Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively.
Addressing the press, the brand manager of Gorkha Brewery, Ashish Bista, said
that the company could make the tournament an annual event after analysing its result.
