Bara and Kaski register victory

By a Post Reporter

RAJBIRAJ, Feb 22 - Bara and Kaski both registered five-wicket win over Banke and Kailali in the league matches of Group A under the 16th Jaya Trophy National cricket tournament held here today.

In the opening match of the day, Banke failed to take advantage of batting first in the good looking pitch after winning the toss.

Facing a pace barrage from Bara, they hardly found any long partnership going and bowled out for paltry 116 runs in 47 overs.

Sushil Chaulagain was the man behind the Banke’s downfall, who bowling at lively pace polished off the top order to pick four wickets, conceding just 38 runs off his ten-over spell. He was later adjudged man of the match.

Bara too had a shaky start to their innings, but once the middle order took charge of the things in the middle, the small target always seemed an easy chase. And they cruised safely with five wickets and 22.2 overs to spare.

Kaski also triumphed by the same margin against Kailali in the other match.

Kailali, who elected to bat first put 194 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs. The score was possible largely due to long innings from two of their prominent batsmen--Sambhu Shahi and Parmanand Bhatta. However, both of them ran short of luck as they came close to scoring fifties. Shahi fell at 46 while Bhatta lost his wicket, playing a lose shot when he was at 45.

Kaski, in reply began quite slowly and were facing pressure losing couple of early wickets. But Pramesh Gurung and Ramesh Singh came to the team’s rescue, each firing half century. Gurung went out for 50 but the man of the match, Singh, who scored 53 runs from 63 balls, held his crease till the end to sail Kaski to a 5-wicket win.

Kaski will now look for another win over Banke on Wednesday and going atop the leader board in the Group A while Tuesday’s other winner Bara play Kailali in the other match.
