-By a Post Reporter

BHAIRAHAWA, Jan 16 - Local Tirupati Cricket Club advanced to the next round of the Tuborg Indo-Nepal Millenium Cricket Championship, following a comprehensive 5-wicket win over Dayananda Jyoti Cricket Club (DJCC) from India here Sunday.

DJCC, who after winning the toss and deciding to bat first were expected to set up a challenging target after they won the toss and chose to bat first in the 40-over match.

But they never looked comfortable against the tight disciplined bowling and good fielding of Tirupati Club and were bowled out for a modest 96 runs after 27.2 overs.

The Indian team lost their first wicket with the score at 29 when Anoop Shrivastav (5) was run out on Tirupati's Mohan Thapa's brilliant ground fielding.

The other opener, Puspesh Shrivastav, gave some stick to the opposition bowlers. He scored 22 runs off just 21 balls, but failed to sustain it for long, falling prey to Dipendra Singh.

Manish Sinha and Bikash Mishra raised some hopes of DJCC’s revival as they added 25 runs for the fourth wicket. But after the departure of Mishra (17) on 67 runs, the rest of the batsmen gave in without any resistance. They were eventually bowled out for 96 runs as Tirupati removed the last three batsmen at the same score.

Off spinner Bijaya Yadav was the pick of the Tirupati bowlers who mesmerized the Indian batsmen to return with figures of 3 wickets for 7 runs off his 5 overs. He was later adjudged man of the match.

Skipper Basanta Shahi and Mohan Thapa too proved good hands, both claiming two wickets apiece.

Tirupati could not get off to a good start and were at a miserable state, losing four wickets in quick succession with just 44 runs on the board. Anoop Shrivastav and Dev Dutta Tirupati spelled terror in the Tirupati camp, each scalping two wickets.

But Sagar Subedi played an attacking innings of 39 runs with five fours and two sixes which took Tirupati close to the target. And Raju Khadka, saw them safely through with five wickets to spare. He remained unbeaten on 36 runs with the help of five fours and a glorious six.
